Francesco Michi è un musicista e sound artist italiano, nato nel 1953. Vive e lavora a Firenze, dove ha conseguito una laurea in Filosofia e un diploma in Musica Elettronica presso il Conservatorio di Musica della città. Nel corso della sua attività francesco Michi ha realizzato e realizza installazioni sonore, sculture sonore, performance sia in Italia che all'estero. Ha inoltre realizzato programmi radiofonici, scritto articoli, libri, pubblicato CD e DVD, ha organizzato eventi, congressi e festival di musica sperimentale.

Nel 1982, ha fondato con Mechi Cena e Jorge Martinez il gruppo FORMAT - architetture sonore -, composto da musicisti e compositori impegnati nel campo della musica elettroacustica e informatica. Il gruppo si dedica alla sperimentazione di nuovi approcci creativi con materiali tecnologici di uso quotidiano e allo studio dell'ambiente acustico e delle sue modificazioni.

Dal 1999, si è occupato anche di musica sul web, utilizzando la rete come piattaforma per lavori legati allo studio dell'ambiente sonoro umano. Con Albert Mayr, Luca Miti e Anton Roca, ha progettato AEFB (Aesthetic Flow Bureau), un sito che ospita molti dei suoi lavori online (Thebigear Project, Connected Menories).

Nel 2003, insieme a Elsa Mersi e Anton Roca, Michi ha co-fondato ARTéCO, un'associazione che promuove attività artistiche ispirate a progetti etici ed ecologici. Ha tenuto concerti, workshop, realizzato installazioni e organizzato eventi e festival di musica sperimentale.

Nel 2007 e 2008, ha realizzato con Mechi Cena due serie di trasmissioni prodotte dalla Radio Svizzera Italiana dal titolo "L'Essere Rumoroso", sui rapporti tra l'uomo e l'ambiente sonoro. Il lavoro con la Radio Svizzera Italiana è proseguito nel 2011 con la serie di 180 puntate intitolata “Suonetti”.

Dal 1998 al 2007 è stato membro del comitato direttivo, insieme a Giancarlo Cardini, Liliana Poli e Roberto Fabbriciani, dell'Associazione Culturale G.A.M.O. a Firenze.

Dal 2009, è il coordinatore per l'Italia delle attività del FORUM KLANGLANDSCHAFT (FKL), un'associazione internazionale che attraverso attività di ricerca, di organizzazione di eventi e convegni, di sviluppo di progetti educativi, opera in Italia ed in Europa con l’obiettivo di sensibilizzare sull’importanza dell’ascolto e della qualità dell’ambiente sonoro in cui viviamo. Dal 2024, nell’ambito delle attività di Arteco e FKL, produce e segue il progetto “I Luoghi del Belsentire” , progetto che mira a valorizzare particolari luoghi nel territorio italiano in virtù del loro aspetto acustico, promuovendo l'ascolto come mezzo di conoscenza e di attrazione. Attraverso una mappatura digitale, il progetto identifica e tutela questi luoghi, preservandone e valorizzandone le peculiarità sonore. Francesco Michi is an Italian musician and sound artist, born in 1953. He lives and works in Florence, where he holds a degree in Philosophy and a diploma in Electronic Music from the city's Conservatory of Music.

Throughout his career, Francesco Michi has created and still creates sound installations, sound sculptures, and performances in Italy and abroad. He has also made radio programmes, written articles, books, published CDs and DVDs, and organised events, conferences and experimental music festivals.

In 1982, he founded the group FORMAT - sound architectures - with Mechi Cena and Jorge Martinez, consisting of musicians and composers working in the field of electroacoustic and computer music. The group was dedicated to the experimentation of new creative approaches with everyday technological materials and the study of the acoustic environment and its modifications.

Since 1999, it has also been involved in music on the web, using the Internet as a platform for work and projects related to the study of the human sound environment. With Albert Mayr, Luca Miti and Anton Roca, he designed AEFB (Aesthetic Flow Bureau), a site that hosts many of his online works (Thebigear Project, Connected Memories).

In 2003, together with Elsa Mersi and Anton Roca, Michi co-founded ARTéCO, an association that promotes artistic activities inspired by ethical and ecological projects. He has held concerts, workshops, created installations and organised events and festivals of experimental music.

In 2007 and 2008, he realised with Mechi Cena two series of broadcasts produced by Radio Svizzera in Lingua Italiana entitled ‘L'Essere Rumoroso’, exploring the relationship between humans and the sound environment. The work with Radio Svizzera Italiana continued in 2011 with the 180-part series entitled ‘Suonetti’.

From 1998 to 2007, he was a member of the GAMO (Gruppo Aperto Musica Oggi) Cultural Association’s executive committee in Florence, alongside Giancarlo Cardini, Liliana Poli, and Roberto Fabbriciani.

Since 2009, he has been the coordinator for Italy of the activities of the FORUM KLANGLANDSCHAFT (FKL), an international association that, through research activities, the organisation of events and conferences, and the development of educational projects, operates in Italy and Europe with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of listening and of the quality of the sound environment in which we live. www.paesaggiosonoro.it

Since 2024, as part of the activities of Arteco and FKL, it has been producing and following the project ‘I Luoghi del Belsentire’ (The Places of Belsentire). , a project that aims to enhance particular places in the Italian territory by virtue of their acoustic aspect, promoting listening as a means of knowledge and attraction. Through digital mapping, the project identifies and protects these places, preserving and enhancing their sound peculiarities.
