luogoComune # 2

This new project marks a line of continuity with the project luogoComune, whose beginning coincided with that of the third millennium, and which led to an exhibition at the Galleria Comunale in Cesena between the 30th November 2002 and the 6th January 2003.
Other stages in this path of reflection were proposed:

" in Reus, Catalonia, at the IES Baix Camp Istitut d'Escola Superior, in two differing modes: through an internet connection with Berlin in November 2001, and with a subsequent exhibition in January 2002.

" at the UfaFabrik International Culture Centre in Berlin where the project was hosted on two further occasions: as part of the event, "Berlin Netdays", in November 2001, and at the Res Artis world conference in the month of September 2005.

The LuogoComune project is articulated around a collective reflection, an investigation, on the modification of the social order in the territory of Cesena, seen as a mirror of the Italian situation, and while observing the new European social fabric that is under formation.

The focus of interest is multiculturality seen as a de facto reality, rather than a chimera: we live in a territory which is multicultural.

While LuogoComune # 2 is, on the one hand, a continuation of the previous project, on the other, it is part of a series of planned stages foreseen as a long-range itinerant process.

One of the aims is to identify a new luogoComune for all of the cultures existing in the territory.

"luogoComune" is understood as being the places and/or spaces into which, by reasons inherent in its very nature, all diversities may converge, with no distortion whatsoever, but rather as an expression of an "ancestral" normality that, for this reason, is common to all cultures.

The proposed path of collective reflection is open and transversal to all age groups and nationalities that are today present in the territory of Cesena, and not only there.

Furthermore, the aim is to work in collaboration with young artists who are invited to become part of this particular creative process, which stems from the intentionality and artistic action of anton roca.

The logic of the path lies in participation by means of a gift: anyone may approach the space where the work is under construction, and become a bearer of meaning through their own contribution of experience, of reflection, or simply by donating an object, any element whatsoever that is important to them.

The procedure is that of an itinerant process with a minimum duration of three months: the realisation of the work is metaphorically in relation to the new European social order which is being set up.

Everything that is collected will become the "body", an integral part of the final installation, which will be open to the public on conclusion of the process.

The element which is the fulcrum and, at the same time, the space for this reflection, is the bed.

The bed as a luogoComune, in that it is:
The place for sleeping (rest), a need that is first of all functional, but also the place where our dreams occur and, therefore, the place for our personal imaginings.

The place for love and reproduction. Thus for birth.
The place for sickness and finally, for death.

Our entire existential cycle thus finds its space in the bed, which serves as a space-projection of what is real. Almost an alter ego of our existential reality.

Due to the particular logic by which the bed is proposed within this project, it is also a metaphor for territory. In this way, the contributions from life and past experiences which have been donated, will bring into focus the way in which, through inhabiting it, we occupy the territory.

THE PROJECT STEPS

1.
Period: October 2006 / March 2007
For the first step the participation is open only to artists. The aim is to create a collective discussion and reflection group in order to rise up a collective work. Not a project for a collective exhibition, but to put our personal knowledge, our single languages into a common space and work in collaboration with other artists on the same path.

We will communicate through a "hyperblog", which will be ready at the end of February and hosted on the artéco site. This blog is based on the model of the Francesco Michi's "Connected Memories" project (you can visit it at www.aefb.org ).

The first step will take place at the Centro Diurno di San Mauro (San Mauro Day Centre), kindly offered by the Municipality of Cesena for the realisation of this project.

Address: via Giardino di San Mauro (corner of Via San Miniato) in Cesena (FC) Italy.

Access should be arranged directly with the artist himself by telephone:
Tel: ++ 39 0547 3850 48 or mobile phone: ++ 39 339 243 01 30.

Or by e-mail: roca@arteco.org

I propose three possible ways of participating until March 2007:

By sending your contribute via the internet to the above address.
You are kindly requested to indicate as the subject: contribution for luogoComune2.

By sending any kind of object through traditional post to:
Mental Permanent Factory of anton roca
Via G. Romagnoli, 127
47023 Cesena FC Italy

By participating directly in the project on the premises.
In this case we would ask you to make arrangements for your intervention on Fridays from 4pm to 10pm, or Saturdays from 10am to 10pm on the following dates:

January 2007
Friday 12th and Saturday 13th
Friday 26th and Saturday 27th

February 2007
Friday 9th and Saturday 10th
Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th

March 2007
Friday 9th and Saturday 10th
Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th

2.
Period: One year starting in April - May 2007

The procedure is that of an itinerant process with a minimum duration of twelve months. During this period of time we will open and show to the public the results raised up by the work group, one weekend a month, for twelve openings.

These twelve steps will be the final result, which will be documented by video recording, photo and also try to publish a book related to that experimental experience. For sure an e-book will be published at the end of the whole process.

The logic of the path lies in participation by means of a gift. So, during this year we will invite also the inhabitants of the territory: anyone may approach the space where the work is under construction, and become a bearer of meaning through their own contribution of experience, of reflection, or simply by donating an object, any element whatsoever that is important to them.

Everything that will be collected will become the "body", an integral part of the work in progress installation.

ABOUT CONTRIBUTES

Any kind of contributions can be accepted: objects, pictures, video, texts,... Anything that represents your idea of a bed as a "luogoComune".
On the first step we ask to focalize and send reflection arguments to the common discussion and exchange space, better than proposals concerning finished works. That's because we'll try to grow up a collective process also for the formal solutions: Installation, video, sound or any kind of finished works we'll show during the twelve monthly openings.
All the contributes will be accepted and, in accord to the authors and indicating their names, will be introduced into the common reflection space.
Any contribute you have on your mind, could be realized, in according to our possibilities, in situ and following your indications. (Even if it will be not possible to you to travel to Cesena)
